As well as a passion for fine wine, Philip and Glenn have a shared a love of art, literature and the Nelson landscape, so it is not surprising that Woollaston Estates is home to a collection of works by artists of international renown.

The Gallery at Woollaston adjoining the tasting room, is named after Toss Woollaston, Philip's father, who lived and worked in the Nelson region and who is widely regarded as a founder of modern art in New Zealand. The gallery displays a changing series of public exhibitions of contemporary, evocative and stimulating work by renowned New Zealand artists including Toss Woollaston, Laurence Aberhart, Elizabeth Thomson, Chris Charteris, Yuk King Tan and Kathryn Madill.

In addition to artworks commissioned and owned by Woollaston Estates, several artworks from Glenn's private collection are also on display within the winery or visible from the courtyard and lawn.

Sculptures which can be visited within the winery grounds include Marté Szirmay's magnificent Yantra for Mahana and Andrew Drummond's Cascade on the courtyard outside the tasting room. Visible from the courtyard are Vertical Form, Counter Rotating also by Andrew Drummond and Christine Boswijk's Totems for a Vineyard. The latter two works are from Glenn Schaeffer's private collection and stand in the grounds of his strikingly modernistic vineyard house.

Inside the winery, in The Cellars on the ground floor, are Bill Culbert's neon installation, Seven Seas and Neil Dawson's Mahana Dome. Also in the winery cellar are two superb tapestries by American artist Ed Moses, and three pieces by Auckland painter Noel Ivanoff.
