The Gallery at Woollaston -Current Exhibition - Christine Boswijk, Before Words
Working on several major sculptural projects over the past 8 years has led Christine Boswijk to develop her art practice to a new level and into uncharted territory. For this, her next major installation, Boswijk has further extended her oeuvre in exciting and innovative ways to include new materials, surfaces and techniques. Before Words is about communicating, both before and without words. Boswijk's work explores a contemporary dilemma, our struggle to appreciate non –verbal communication, the value of silence and especially those moments of understanding and realisation before we give voice to our thoughts. On a historical level, before there were spoken and written languages, symbols were used to communicate thoughts and ideas. Referencing Rodchenko and symbols from other great traditions, Before Words also examines the power of communication through symbols and the universal messages they harbour. The exhibition runs from 20 Feb to 18 March and is open 7 days from 11am - 4.30pm. For further information visit www.rh-art.co.nz or phone Rebecca Hamid, Gallery Director on 021 393 970. |
