The Woollaston Estates Cellar Door was designed by Arthouse Architecture and consists of a tasting room, art gallery and picnic lawn and courtyard. The tasting room is open for tastings and wine sales from Labour Weekend in October until Easter, 7 days a week, 11am – 4.30pm. During this period, there is live music on the lawn the first Sunday of each month – see our events page for details of bands. From the lawn, sweeping views encompass the mountains, vineyards and Tasman Bay. Tasting platters of local produce are available to purchase, and we invite visitors to sip some wine and linger and enjoy the views. Picnics are also welcome. The tussock-roofed Gallery at Woollaston is named after Philip's father, Toss Woollaston, who is widely regarded as the founder of modern art in New Zealand. The gallery displays a changing series of public exhibitions of contemporary, evocative and stimulating work by renowned New Zealand artists including Toss Woollaston, Laurence Aberhart, Elizabeth Thomson, Chris Charteris, Yuk King Tan and Katherine Madill. As a busy working winery, winery tours can be organised for groups by prior arrangement.During the off-season months in autumn and winter it is possible to purchase wine and browse the gallery Monday - Friday from 8.30am – 5pm. Wine tasting for groups can be arranged by appointment. The Cellars and tasting room are available for private functions such as dinners, weddings and business meetings, and access may occasionally vary from the published opening hours – to avoid disappointment please check our website for any changes. In February, the Cellar Door will be closing early at 3pm each Saturday for weddings. |
